Ung Cancer’s financial support is intended to provide financial assistance to cancer-affected members for costs incurred in connection with cancer when the social safety net does not cover them. Before applying for financial support from Ung Cancer, you should ensure that you have applied for any other grants and compensation you may be entitled to.

Financial support for those affected

As a member with cancer, you can apply for financial support for:

Everyday expenses: You can be granted up to 10,000 SEK in support for expenses such as rent, food, hygiene, etc., when your cancer has made it impossible for you to cover these costs yourself.
Aids: You can be granted up to 10,000 SEK for a wig, prosthetics, home adaptations, etc., when your cancer has made it impossible for you to cover these costs yourself.
Rehabilitation: You can apply for financial support for psychological rehabilitation, for example to see a psychologist. You can also apply for support for physical rehabilitation, for example for a gym membership, yoga or dance.

You apply digitally. To apply, go to the link below and log in as a member of Ung Cancer. Then complete the application by filling out the form, and remember to attach your most recent medical certificate/statement regarding your diagnosis or a copy of your medical records describing your cancer diagnosis.

As we have received many incomplete applications, we would like to remind you that it is important to always specify your monthly expenses, such as rent, transport/car costs, insurance, food, medical visits, and the like. The more detailed you are in specifying these, the better we will be able to assess your application fairly.

There are several different reasons why applications are denied. The most common reason is that the applicant is not assessed to have a financial deficit. This means that based on the information Ung Cancer has received in the application, the applicant is assessed to be able to cover their expenses and the purpose for which they are seeking financial support with their income.

Another reason why the support is denied is that the purpose for which the person is seeking funds is not valid. Examples of this can be loans, debts, or entertainment. If an application is incomplete, the application is rejected.

Once an application has been denied, it cannot be supplemented or reconsidered.

For an application to be considered complete, it must be filled out correctly.
This means:

Correct after-tax income is stated in the application. Income includes salary, sickness benefits, student grants/loans, or similar.
If you have children, make sure to fill in the field for this, including the child's date of birth.
All monthly expenses are correctly filled in. For example, you need to state the following:
•Rent/housing costs
•Electricity costs
• Food
• Home insurance
• Costs for mobile phone and mobile subscription
• Broadband costs
• Streaming services, such as Netflix and Spotify
• Car insurance
• Fuel costs
• Pet costs
• Bus pass/public transport
• CSN repayments
• Medicines
• Doctor visits
• Healthcare-related travel
You do not need to state debts, such as debt collection or private loans, as Ung Cancer does not count these as monthly expenses.
The applicant's latest medical certificate/statement regarding the diagnosis or a copy of the medical records stating the applicant's cancer diagnosis.
The justification includes a connection to cancer.

To be granted financial support, you must first have applied for support through the public safety net. This means that you must first apply for sickness benefits, unemployment benefits and/or social assistance before applying for financial support from Ung Cancer.

If Ung Cancer determines that you have not done this, your application may be paused until you can provide evidence that you have contacted the relevant public agencies. You do not need to have applied to other private foundations or organizations before applying for financial support from Ung Cancer.

Although a student loan is a loan and not income, Ung Cancer considers it a common and widespread way to finance studies at colleges, universities, and folk high schools.

If you only take the student grant and not the loan during your studies, Ung Cancer will assume that you have the option to take the loan portion as well. You can therefore also list repayments to CSN as an expense, even though other loans are not counted as expenses by Ung Cancer.

We assess the member's expenses and income. We assess whether the member's expenses are reasonable. This is done based on reference values that Ung Cancer has developed with the help of the Swedish Consumer Agency's annual reference values. Based on this, Ung Cancer has adjusted costs that cancer patients may have in addition to everyday costs (for example, higher clothing costs due to weight gain/weight loss as a result of medication or chemotherapy).

If Ung Cancer assesses that an expense item is particularly high, it is reduced and a calculation is made from the new value. Once the calculation has been made for all expense items, the amount to be granted may therefore be lower than the amount the member applied for. This may lead to the support being partially granted.

A medical certificate signed by your doctor, or a copy of your medical records, or a copy of your sick leave certificate from Försäkringskassan will work perfectly. It must state that the diagnosis is cancer. The document should be from your most recent treatment, even if that was 10 years ago. You can also ask your doctor to fill out the “diagnosis report” form, which you can print from the website.

No, you do not need to submit receipts to Ung Cancer for everyday expenses. However, if you have only been granted “healthcare and medical aids,” you need to submit receipts for these specific expenses. Your decision letter should state “Receipt required.” This receipt can also be electronic. Please note that the receipt must be dated after the funds were paid out to you. We do not accept retroactive receipts. We also cannot accept receipts that are not from Sweden.
