My name is Juli Wahlund and I live in Umeå but grew up in Skåne. When I received my cancer diagnosis for the first time, I had just moved from Skåne all the way up to Umeå. Everything was new, I was about to start studying at the university and felt that I could finally get a fresh start in life. In the back of my mind, though, was the thought "I should check out that lump in my breast". I received my diagnosis of HER2-positive Breast Cancer one year after I first felt the lump in my breast because it was not taken seriously. The healthcare staff said "it's probably nothing". I received the diagnosis 1 month and two weeks before I turned 20. By that time it had grown into a second lump.
My lecture will be about studying with cancer, how cancer gave me the strength to see a life beyond my illness and the problems I have had with the healthcare system both before and during treatment.
