The light and darkness of cancer, Jax is one of Ung Cancer's speakers and tells about life as a childhood cancer survivor.
My name is Jax Lif Pedersen, I am 20 years old. I grew up in Hoting but now live in Umeå. When I was one year old, I got an astrocytoma in my spinal canal. I was treated with chemotherapy until I was 5. When I was 3 I had surgery and have since lived with 10% of my cancer remaining but am no longer treated because there is nothing left they can do. Today I use a wheelchair and am treated for other things I have gotten as a result of cancer.
With my lecture I want to highlight the opportunities I have received thanks to my cancer. I want to show that it is possible to see a light in all the darkness that this disease brings. I also want to highlight the problems that can arise within the healthcare system when you seek care for other problems when you are someone with a history of cancer.
